Why are you doing this?
The causes of Crohn’s Disease are not known and there is no known cure.
As well as not much medical knowledge about the disease there is not much public awareness of what sufferers are going through as it is a little talked about Disease
We want to raise awareness and funds to help researchers continue their quest to find the causes and a cure to significantly increase the quality of life of sufferers. We would also like to make the general public more aware of the condition.
The Goals of the Crohn’s Crusaders project:
- Raise Awareness of Crohn’s Disease among the general public in Australia and overseas
- Raise Funds for Crohn’s Disease research
What is Crohn’s Disease?
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a term used to describe two diseases, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, which cause inflammation of the bowel.
Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation of the inner lining of the large bowel (colon and rectum).
Crohn’s disease causes inflammation of the full thickness of the bowel wall and may involve any part of the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus (back passage).

How has the project been funded?
Some of the project has been funded by partners from the corporate sector. These partners have funded various parts of the trip such as travel expenses, motor-home hire and website development in exchange for the right to publicly associate their brand with the project.
Please support our partners, without whom, the project would not be possible. You can view a full list of our partners on the Partners page.
How often will you send me e-mail updates?
We will send e-mail updates on an occasional basis until the actual ride starts. Then we will send you one update for every stage (there are 21 stages) while we are on the Tour de France route. The updates will include stage highlights, one Crohn’s Disease fact and one Crohn’s Disease profile. We will also include a daily video update and some selected photos from our image gallery.
Are you confident that you can complete the course?
Damian is absolutely terrified at the prospect of not completing the course after telling everybody that he is going to complete it. However, once he sets his mind on something he is very determined to achieve it. We think that Damian will be motivated and disciplined enough to complete the necessary training to ensure he is in good enough shape to complete the course.
Can I ride along with you?
Sure can. Damian already has a number of people joining him on various stages of the route. Friends from Australia, France, Wales and England have already signalled their intent to join Damian for a stage or two.
How many people are on the Crohn’s Crusaders team?
There are five riders and five support crew who will be responsible for project logistics.
How can I help?
You can help us in two ways. Firstly, you can register to follow the progress of the project via occasional e-mail updates and then tell your friends, family and work colleagues to do the same.
Secondly, you could make a donation. All funds raised will be allocated to a specific research project. Click here to donate now
